hey everyone my name is Ellen and today I'm going to be showing you guys how to play Call Me Maybe by kly Ray Jepson on the guitar so stay tuned if this is a song that you want to learn so as always I'm going to start you guys off with the chords first and the song is actually really easy there's only four chords you need to know in the whole thing um also you don't need a capo for this song so this is great for all of you guys who don't have a capo um yeah I'm going to go ahead and show you the four chords you need to know all right so the first chord that you need to know is a G chord which looks like this and sounds like this okay and then next is a c chord and it looks just like the G except you're going to take your first and your middle finger and you're going to move them each down one string okay so this is your CAD n chord which looks like this and sounds like this and remember the X means not to play that string so in this case you're not going to be playing this top thickest E string okay the other chord you need to know is D so that looks like this and it sounds like this so remember in this chord you're not going to be playing the top two strings all right and then the last chord you need to know and this is really actually optional so you don't really need to know this if you don't want to it's the D suspended chord so all you have to do for that one is take your pinky and put that right next to your ring finger so it'll look like this and it'll sound like this okay so it's it's pretty simple right there's only four chords you need to know three really if you don't want to add that suspended D in there so I'll go ahead and let you guys practice that and whenever you can transition between the cords pretty easily then we can go on and I'll teach you guys the strumming pattern okay so hopefully you guys have the hang of the cords now I'm going to go ahead and show you the different strumming patterns and this is just the way I would play it but um for the verses which is how the song starts and everything I would go ahead and play it like this so go ahead and put your G chord down and what I'm going to do is I'm going to pick with my fingers with my thumb I'm going to pick the top thickest E string and then with my other three fingers because I'm going to put my pinky here to rest with my other three fingers I'm going to pick just three other strings with the G chord you can really just pick whatever three strings you want to play but you would do back and forth between the top string and the other three and this will kind of imitate the sound that it has at the beginning of the song so that's how you're going to play that part so again for every different chord it's going to be played the same way you're going to play the bottom string first so the lowest string first and then the three other strings so for C you would just play the next string over and then for D you would play the bottom string so g c d and there you go that would be for all of the verses you could play like that um for the chorus I'm going to show you two different ways you can play it uh one is an easier Rhythm to do the other one's a little bit more difficult to do while you're singing so I'll go ahead and show you both so I'll show you the easy one first um I'm going to go ahead and put down my C chord for the chorus hey I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number so call me baby it's hard to look right at your F here's my number so call me maybe so the way I'm playing this it's all downstrokes and what I'm doing is I'm just emphasizing certain beats so I'll show you that one instead of playing 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 I'm going to emphasize certain beats like this 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 I know that all of this might be a little bit confusing but it's just something that came very naturally to me so whatever kind of Rhythm you feel in your body while you play this song is I'm sure it'll translate well into your guitar playing but uh for me I would just play it like that and I'll show you guys one more time it's all downstrokes 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 okay um that's kind of like the easier way to play it it's I think it's easier because you can sing better with that Rhythm the other Rhythm you might want to play is kind of the one that you hear more in this song so that goes like this hey I just met you and this is crazy but here's my number so call me baby you can tell already that it's harder for me to sing and keep that Rhythm but um the way that would go is just that there's a few more chords that you need to know so it' be e g d d 1 2 3 4 2 3 4 2 3 4 3 4 2 3 4 3 4 so while I take you through the entire song with all the chords and everything I'll probably just split this screen down the middle and uh on the left side will be the easier way to play it and on the right side will be the I think is harder way to play it okay so go ahead and practice all of those strumming patterns um you can pick whichever ones come easiest to you and of course you don't have to stick with mine you can definitely do whatever you think sounds great so whenever you're comfortable with switching between cords and you figured out what kind of strumming you want to do go ahead and continue and I'll take you through the entire song and tell you what all the chords are and everything like that all right so hopefully you guys feel pretty comfortable with the chords and changing between them and all of the strumming patterns and everything so if you feel pretty okay with that let's go ahead and put everything together and we'll put the whole song together and I'm going to have all the chords listed for you guys right here and remember the split screen whenever you choose which CH you want to take okay um I'm going to go a little bit below Tempo just so that we can all keep up and this is Call Me Maybe by Carly Ray Json good luck I wish well
