Hi, my name is Ellen and today I'm going to be showing you guys how to play For the Love of a Daughter by Demi Lovato off her new album Unbroken um on the guitar. So, you don't need a capo for this song and uh let's go ahead and get started with the chords. Okay, so there's seven chords you'll need to know for this song and we'll start by showing you B minor which looks like this and sounds like this. Remember the X means not to pick play that string. Um the next chord is G which looks like this and sounds like this. Then after that you're going to want to know A which looks like this and sounds like this. Okay, next is E minor which looks like this and sounds like this. And then there's D which looks like this and sounds like this. All right, we're almost done. You're going to know F sharp minor, which looks like this. And sounds like this. Sorry. And then the last one you'll need to know, it's only played once in the whole song, is B. Which looks like this. And sounds like this. All right. So, those are all the chords you'll need to know to play the entire song. Um at the beginning and throughout there's also like four notes that they play. I think it's by piano. Um I'll go ahead and show you what those are just in case you want to put that in your cover. You're going to want to start on your top string, your highest string. Or I guess bottom, depending on how you're looking at your guitar. Uh the top E string, the high E string. You're going to go to the 10th fret. So, if you have dots on your guitar like mine, it'll be right above the third dot. Okay? You're going to play that twice. Then you're going to go right next to the the Then you're going to go to the fret right next to it, the ninth fret. Still on the top E string. Then you're going to reach over to the B string, which is the next highest string, right next to it. 10th fret. Okay? Then you're going to go down three frets, 1, 2, 3. And play that note twice. Okay. So, together it sounds like this. All right. So, those are all the chords. Go ahead and practice those. And uh when you can transition between them pretty easily, then go ahead and click continue and I will show you the different kinds of strumming patterns you can use to play this song. So, if I were playing this song, I would have basically two different kinds of strumming patterns. And I'll go ahead and show you which two I would use. Um of course, you don't have to do these two, but some people like to have strumming patterns, so. Um I'm going to go ahead and put my B minor chord down. And the first pattern is just all down strokes. So, it sounds like this. Down, down, down, down, down, 1 3 4 1 3 4 So, when you would transition, it would sound like this. Okay. That would be mostly for the refrains. You have a hollowed-out heart, but it's heavy in your chest. Um and those like uh transitioning kind of moments. For the chorus, uh oh father, please father, I'd love to leave you alone, but I can't let you go. That's going to be more intense, so I would use a strumming pattern that's a little more intense. So, this one's a little bit more complicated. It goes down down up up down up down up down up up down up. If you've looked at any of my other tutorials, you'll know that I use this strumming pattern a lot cuz it's very versatile. So, um yeah, down down up up down up. So, with transitions, it would sound like this. Okay. So, um hopefully by now you can do all the chords and transition between them, and you can practice the two strumming patterns I just showed you or make up your own, whatever you think sounds good. And when you're ready, we can go ahead and play through the whole song together. All right, so hopefully you guys have the chords and strumming patterns down. Um while I show you the chords for the whole song, um I'm going to refer to the first strumming pattern I showed you as strumming pattern one, and then the more intense one as strumming pattern two. Um that's just one way to play it. So, if you ever think of a different strumming pattern or a different chord that sounds better, you know, by all means use it.
