hi my name is Ellen and today I'm going to be showing you guys how to play Grenade by Bruno Mars um first of all you're going to want to put your Capo on the fifth fret so one two three four five if you don't have one the chords are still the same you're just going to have to sing it a little lower I guess um so I'm going to go ahead and show you guys the chords there are six in this song first you're going to want to start with a minor which looks like this and sounds like this the X means not to play that string so for in this case you wouldn't be playing this top string here after that you're going to want to know E minor which looks just like a minor except you're going to take off your first finger or your pointer finger and move the other two up one string so it looks like this and sounds like this after that is f looks like this it's a little bit harder because it's a barred chord and it sounds like this next is e which looks like this and sounds like this now you're going to want to know C which looks like this and sounds like this and the very last chord you're going to know need to know for this song is G which looks like this and sounds like this so those are all the chords in the whole song go ahead and practice them and try to memorize them and when you think you've got it go ahead and click continue and I'll show you two different kinds of strumming patterns so hopefully you guys have mastered the chords um I'm going to go ahead and show you some string patterns that you can use for this song but feel free to play around with it and um figure out your own struming patterns too if you don't like mine but this is just something kind of simple that came naturally to me so hopefully you guys will enjoy it um the first string pattern I use is for the verses um it's just simple like on the beat counting to eight 1 2 3 4 5 6 7even eight except we're going to be putting the emphasis on Beats one and four so if you go ahead and put your a minor chord down it would sound something like this 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 2 3 4 5 6 78 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 1 2 3 4 5 6 78 um if you don't enjoy that then I'm sure whatever comes naturally to you would probably sound great with your singing style so go ahead and just mess around with that and figure out what you want to do um if you want to do my pattern you might hear that's a little muted that's because I'm taking the Palm on my right hand with my pick and I'm kind of putting the uh side of my palm on the strings lightly so that it kind of muts it a little um and then if you use your pck really lightly it kind of makes more of a quiet muted sound and I think that sounds really good um for the chorus I like to think of it more as like a fuller sound so what I do there is I I go to fullon strumming and the pattern that I use is a little difficult but um I'm sure with practice you'll get it or you can make up your own I think either one it's fine um I go like this down down down up up down down down up down up up down down up down up up down down up down up up down it is a little complicated but um it's just what came naturally to me whenever I was trying to figure this song out so with the chord progression it would sound like this yeah so go ahead and practice the struming patterns I'm sure whatever comes to you is going to sound great you don't have to stick to mind but um those are just some suggestions so go ahead and practice the strumming patterns the two different kinds and um the cords and when we come back we'll put them together and put the holes on together and um it'll sound great so good luck so hopefully you guys have begun to master the chords and the strumming pattern whatever you chose to do I'm sure it sounds great we're going to put the two together now and play through the whole song I'm going to go a little bit slower than Bruno Mars's version just in case any of you guys are still trying to figure things out or put things together I know sometimes it can take a while so um just keep practicing and I'm sure you'll get it if you mess up just rewind back to the beginning and try again or just try to keep going or you know whatever works out for you um this is it so good luck easy come easy go that's just how you live or take take take it all but you never should have known you were trouble from the first kid Just Had Your Eyes Wide
