foreign hey everyone my name is ellen and today i'm going to be showing you guys how to play my ex's best friend by machine gun kelly featuring black bear on the guitar so stay tuned if this is something you want to learn all right guys so this song is so super simple there's only three chords for the entire song and it's a super easy strumming pattern as well and just to let you know i am using my electric today with some power cords but i will also show you how to play this on acoustic with a capo and open cord so make sure to stay tuned until the end if you want to learn about that too all right guys so first of all on the electric we are in standard tuning you don't need a capo to play this song in the original key and you only need to know these three chords so let's go ahead and zoom in and take a look alright guys so for electric what we're going to do when we're playing this is we're just going to focus on a few of these strings so ignore the low e string we're just going to be playing on the a d and g strings all right and so what i want to do with your fingers is we're going to take our first finger or our pointer finger and put that on the fourth fret fourth fret of the a string then we're going to take our ring finger put that on the sixth fret of the d string and then our pinky is going to go on the sixth fret right next door on the g string okay so that's your first chord all right and so from here what you want to do is keep this exact same chord shape on your left hand we're just going to slide our entire hand up and now what you're going to be and what you're going to be on is the 8th and the 10th frets okay but we're on the exact same string still fingers are in the exact same spot all right so we've got our first finger on the 8th fret the ring and pinky on the 10th then from here you're just gonna slide it down two frets so now we're on six eight and eight so we're on our sixth fret with our first finger and then pinky and ring are on eighth frets all right so whenever you're playing it this way with the power chord you're going to be doing a lot of sliding around slide slide all right and that's how you're going to play the whole song now as far as strumming goes if you guys are like me and have a little bit of trouble skipping that low e string while you're strumming you can go ahead and turn this first finger into kind of a bar if that's something that you are comfortable doing and that means if you do strum this low e string it still sounds pretty okay so that's just kind of a little uh insider tip there so in that example i was strumming the low e string on all of those so if that's something that you're struggling with just turn this first finger into a bar and that'll avoid that problem but yeah so this is how you play it those are the chords that we'll be using so let's go ahead and go into strumming all right guys now that you know the fingerings for the cords all you have to do for strumming is we're going to strum eight times down so we're gonna go one two three four five six seven eight that's the whole strumming pattern and what you want to do on the first chord is do it eight times one two three four five six seven eight then you're gonna go up to the second chord and you're gonna play that four times one two three four then scoot down to the third chord one two three four then go back to your first chord one two three four five six seven eight one two three four one two three four five six seven eight one two and you basically just repeat that through the entire song i played it through the entire song it works for the whole song and that's as simple as it is so that is the chords and strumming for if you want to play it without a capo with power chords on an electric guitar but let's go ahead and jump into what this would look like on acoustic alright guys so for acoustic you want to make sure you have your capo on the first fret if you want to play it in the same key as the original song and again like i said we only need three chords the first one is our c chord which looks like this and sounds like this from there you're going to go into our e minor chord which looks like this and sounds like this and then the last chord you need to know is our d chord which looks like this and sounds like this and those are the only three chords you need to know for the entire song all right now that you know those chords the strumming pattern is exactly the same as we went through with the electric guitar you're just gonna do eight down strums so we're on our c chord first one two three four five six seven eight go to your second chord which is e minor we're gonna strum down four times one two three four switch to d one two three four and that's it you repeat that over and over again for the whole two three song one two three four one two three and again this works for the entire song and i will go ahead and play a little bit of the beginning for you guys just so you can hear what it sounds like all together hey all right guys and that is it for me today that was two easy ways to play my ex's best friend on the guitar with acoustic or electric
