hey everyone my name is ellen and today i'm going to be showing you guys how to play dreams new song road trip on the guitar so stay tuned if this is something that you want to learn and guys really quick i wanted to point out that i am using my electric guitar in this video today just because it sounds a little bit closer to the original song and i will link down below the exact settings i'm using on my fender mustang amp um however if you have a different amp i will also just kind of link what i'm using here in this bottom section of the screen but um you can definitely use this with an acoustic guitar as well and to keep it as beginner friendly as possible i am also using a capo on the third fret that way we can play really easy chords to play through this song so this song is going to be pretty beginner friendly there's only four chords to play through the entire song and they repeat themselves in the same order for the whole song so it's really great for transitions and beginners and in addition to that there's only one strumming pattern i want to show you and one picking pattern so you can choose which one you like or do both and with that being said let's go ahead and jump into this tutorial okay so let's go ahead and go over these chords that you need to know like i said there's only four and the first one is a minor which looks like this and sounds like this from there we're going to switch into our c major 7 which looks like this and sounds like this after that we've got our g chord which looks like this and sounds like this and then our last chord is our f which is our bar chord and it looks like this and sounds like this and those are the only four chords you need to know to play the song all right guys so once you have those chords memorized go ahead and practice transitioning between them because like i said earlier this whole song follows this exact same transition for the entire song so it's really great to be able to play those from that order um but with that being said let's jump into the strumming pattern so if you're brand new to guitar and having a little bit of trouble with singing and playing at the same time i would recommend to go ahead and just do one single down strum on every chord change while you sing um however the actual strumming pattern i do like to use for this song is not that much harder and all we're going to do is a double down strum so it's going to be down down and then we're going to mute the strings by kind of slapping them and i only like to use this during the choruses of the song but you could definitely apply it for the whole song so let's go ahead and jump into what that sounds like all right so we have our a minor chord on because that's the first chord in the song and all you want to do is strum it twice and then you want to just mute the strings by slapping them so they stop ringing so you can do that with a open hand you can do it with a fist however you want to all right and all you want to do is do that exact same strumming pattern one time through for every chord so we've got a minor c major seven g then f and that's the whole thing you just repeat that over and over again and like i said you can apply this for the entire song versus choruses everything however i like to use it just during the choruses so i'll go ahead and show you a little bit of how that sounds sorry this song just came out yesterday so i'm not like super good at it yet but anyways this strumming pattern can be applied for the whole thing if you wanted it to however i like to actually play kind of a picking pattern for the verses and the intro and the outro and stuff like that so let's go ahead and zoom in so i can show you what that's like all right guys so i've zoomed in so we can take a closer look at this picking pattern and i just want to mention really quick that in my tutorials i do like to refer to these strings as numbers so let me close up here to show you guys that we've got six five four three two one from top to bottom and that goes ead gbe all right so for this part of the tutorial i'm gonna be referring to these strings mostly by their number all right so with that being said let's go ahead and jump into how to play this picking pattern again the chords are all the same so let's go ahead and start with our a minor and all you want to do is put your thumb on the fifth string or the a string and then your first second and third finger are gonna go on four three and two d g and b all right so all you want to do is go thumb pointer middle ring which is going from bottom to top okay five four three two awesome then moving into our next chord is c major seven it's actually exactly the same thing so we've got five four three two all right awesome then we'll switch to our g chord and on this one i want you to keep your first second and third or your pointer middle ring finger on the same strings but move your thumb to the sixth string okay so now we've got low e and then d g b all right so six four three two all right and then the last chord is our f chord and for this one you're gonna move your first second and third finger up one string okay so now instead of four three two they're gonna be on five four three so now we're gonna keep our thumb on the sixth string so we've got six five four three all right so you can see with all of these chords we're just going one string at a time from bottom to top so starting from the top we've got a minor five four three two then c major seven five four three two then g six four three two and then f six five four three all right and so that's basically the entire picking pattern the only thing you want to do now is you kind of want to mute the string sometimes so in the original song you'll hear them mute the first and third chord so we've got a minor mute then we've got c major seven and let that ring then we switch to g mute and then switch to f and let that ring all right so the whole thing goes like this a minor c major 7 g all right and that's basically the entire picking pattern like i said at the beginning you can repeat that for the entire thing for all the verses pre-courses courses um however you want and it's the exact same way to play for the whole song all right guys so after you have those chords memorized and you've got that strumming and or picking pattern down let's go ahead and put that all together so we can play through the whole song this is road trip by dream featuring pinbata good luck people changed up the east is see memories across the midwest with
