tutorial but if all you have is an acoustic that totally works as well it'll be exactly the same thing just on a different guitar so anyways this song is going to be really great if you're a beginner to play in the same key as the original as harry styles go ahead and make sure your guitar is in standard tuning and you do not need a capo to play this song and it's also really beginner friendly because you only need to know four chords to play through the whole song and none of them are bar chords and one strumming pattern so let's go ahead and jump into an overview of what i'll be teaching you in this tutorial so like i said this song is really beginner friendly we only need to know four chords for the whole song and those are d minor seven a minor seven c and g so if you already know how to play those chords and that's perfect and great however if you do want me to break them down for you and show you how to play those go ahead and skip to this time here where i will go over the chords and give you the chord charts and all of that kind of stuff so you can get the chords down um and then after that we will jump into the strumming patterns and i have two strumming patterns the first one is more of a practice pattern and as you can see it's just one simple down strum on the beat of every chord change and i like to suggest beginners do this because it's really helpful to be able to hear how the song goes together with the guitar so if you want to go through an example of what this would sound like in the song make sure to skip to this time here so that i can go through that and break it down with you however if you feel like you don't need to do that then we can go ahead and skip into the actual strumming pattern that i do like to use for my cover so here's the strumming pattern that i like to use as you can see it's down up mute down up mute down down up and it's going to sound a little something like this so if you want me to help break down this strumming pattern for you and just kind of give you an example of what it would sound like in the song itself make sure to skip to this time here and i will show you guys how to do this strumming pattern however if you feel like you already got the rhythm and everything just by watching me play it in this overview you can always go to the play through of the video here at the end and that's where i will go through the entire song and list all of the chords and lyrics and everything you need to know on screen in front of you so we can play through it together but with that being said let's go ahead and jump into the more in-depth part of this tutorial and we'll start with the chords all right so let's take a closer look at these chords like i said there's only four for the whole song and we're going to start with our d minor seven chord which looks like this and sounds like this after that we have our a minor seven chord which looks like this and sounds like this next we have our c chord which looks like this and sounds like this and then the last chord you need to know is g which looks like this and sounds like this and those are the only chords you need to know for this song alright so once you have those chords memorized go ahead and take some time to make sure you can transition between them this song is great for beginners because the entire song follows this exact same progression so it's always going to go from d minor 7 to a minor 7 to c to g so if you're having trouble with transitioning and stuff this is going to be a great first kind of song for you to practice that with and i do actually have a tmt right here as well um with tips and tricks on how to get better at transitioning chords faster so make sure to check that out too if that's something that you're struggling with but once you have those transitions down we can move on to the strumming patterns that i like to use for this song so if you're familiar with any of my other tutorials you know the first strumming pattern i always like to start with is a practice pattern which is just one simple down strum on the beat for every chord change now if you're brand new to guitar and having trouble with playing and singing at the same time and things like that i always suggest you start with this simple down strum pattern because it does help you get used to the song and putting the lyrics together with the strumming and stuff like that and it will help you be able to get those more complicated strumming patterns later on so let me go ahead and go through an example of what this sounds like i have my d minor 7 chord on since that's the first chord in the song and all you want to do is strum down once then you move to a minor 7 strum down once then we have c strum down once and then g strum down once all right and that's the whole pattern you just want to take that through the entire song to make sure that you know where you're going to be doing those chord transitions and you'll know what word you'll be singing and things like that so let me go ahead and take you through the first verse as an example again i have my d minor seven chord on we're just going to strum it down tastes like strawberries on a summer evening and it sounds just like a song i want more berries all right so that's just an example you would basically want to take this through the entire rest of the song and make sure you know where you're going to be transitioning on those chords and then once you have that down we can move into the strumming pattern that i do actually like to use for my cover here at the end all right so here's the strumming pattern i would suggest for this song as you can see it's down up mute down up mute down down up and we're going to play this through one time for each of the chords in the progression but before we do that let's go ahead and just go through the motion so if you have your d minor seven chord on since that's the first chord in the song let's go ahead and go through the motions of this strumming pattern you're just gonna strum down then rake back up and then on your way up you just want to mute the strings and all i'm doing for that is you can either do it with an open hand you can do it with your fist however you want you just want to tap the strings lightly to kind of stop them from ringing and that will accomplish a mute so we've got down uh mute all right super simple just on your way back up just go ahead and tap those strings all right so you're going to do that twice we've got down up mute down up mute then you're just gonna come back in and do a down down up all right and those are all gonna ring so we've got down on you down up mute down down up nice so that was it in rhythm so why don't you go ahead and put your d minor seven chord on and try that with me in rhythm one two three four down down up nice and so once you get the rhythm all you want to do is put those chord transitions back in because we are going pretty similar to the original tempo so let me go ahead and put those chord progressions on screen in front of you so you can see them and remember we're doing this pattern through one time for each of these chords so with our d minor seven chord on we're going to go through the pattern once down up mute down up mute down down up then you switch to your next chord which is a minor seven and do the same thing and then finish off with g down a mute down of mute down down up nice all right so after you get the transitions down now all you want to do is put it all together without stopping so let's go ahead and go through an example of that again we're starting on our d minor seven chord and i'll count us in one two three four down a mute down a few down down up down a mute down a mute down down g d minor seven you got it evening and it sounds just like a song nice so if you were able to keep up with me at that speed then that's great because that is the speed i will be going here at the end so once you feel comfortable with this strumming pattern and you want to go through the entire song make sure to stay tuned because we will be going through the play through where i'll have
