hi my name is Ellen and today I'm going to be showing you guys how to play Who Says by Selena Gomez on the guitar I put up my cover a few weeks ago and I've got an overwhelming response of people asking me to show them how to play so this is the way I played it and I hope that this tutorial helps you I'm going to start you off by showing you some of the chords um the beginning that sounds like this have different chords than the rest of the song so I'll go ahead and show you those first the first chord you'll need to know is e major which looks like this and sounds like this from here you'll need to know e suspended two which looks like this and sounds like this and then you'll need to know e suspended 4 which looks a lot like E major except you're going to scoot your pinky up one fret and it looks like this and sounds like this once you get the hang of those three chords you can play the beginning if you listen really closely that kind of repeats through the entire song so you could sing the whole song like that but I'll also teach you the chords um for the rest of the song as well for the rest of the song There are a few more chords so I'll go ahead and show you those I'll start with E this is another way to play e it looks like this and sounds like this you're also going to need to know C minor which looks like this it's a barred chord and it sounds like this the next chord you'll need to know is a which looks like this and sounds like this and remember don't play the strings that have that are marked with an X and then the last chord you'll need to know is B which is another B chord it looks like this and sounds like this all right once you know all of those chords you can play the entire song so um go ahead and practice those and then when you're ready to continue you can click play and I'll show you guys the strumming patterns I'm going to start you guys off by showing you the strumming pattern for the very beginning if you go ahead and put on your E major chord the beat is 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 but you're going to hold on to the E major a little longer than the others so E major would be 1 2 3 4 1 then you go to E suspended 2 2 3 4 go back to e 1 2 3 4 1 E suspended four 2 3 4 so all together that sounds like this 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 1 2 3 4 this part repeats throughout the entire song so if you'd like to sing the entire song playing just that part then it's that easy you could do that but um I'm going to go ahead and teach you the other strumming pattern too for the the rest of the chord the way I played it in my cover was down down up down down down down down up down down down up down down up down down down up down down up if you've watched my other guitar tutorials you'll know that I kind of just play whatever comes naturally to me so I encourage you guys to experiment around and see what kind of strumming pattern you can come up with um but if you like the way mine sounds you can use this pattern so down down up down up down down down down down up down up down so together my string pattern sounds like this so go ahead and practice your chords and your strumming patterns and when you're ready to continue you can click play and then I will take you through the entire song all right so hopefully you guys have the strumming patterns and the chords all down let's go ahead and put the two together
